A massive explosion this morning at a gas plant near Orla, Texas, just south of the New Mexico-Texas border, caused a large fire and prompted hundreds of evacuations in the area.
Reeves County Chief Deputy Israel Campos told cbs7.com that the facility is owned by Anadarko and an addition to the site was being constructed. At the time of the blast (about 9:00 am local time this morning), about 300 people were working at the site, Campos said.
Oilpro has contacted Anadarko for a comment, but has not yet received a reply.
Campos characterized the blast as a “major explosion.” Cbs7.com reports that so far only two workers suffered non-life threatening injuries. The injured are being transported to local hospitals for medical attention.
“They have a lot of people working out there but the reports are saying that everyone else is doing alright,” Campos told the local media.
We will provide updates as they become available.
